IPFW soars to 82-57 win over UMKC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Frank Gaines scored 21 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds to lead IPFW to an 82-57 victory over UMKC on Saturday night.

The Mastodons (18-11, 11-7 Summit) got off to a 29-9 lead midway through the first half and were never threatened after that. They went on to lead by as many as 25 points late in the second half.

Gaines, the Mastodons’ leading scorer this season, made 7 of 9 from the field and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line.

Reggie Chamberlain scored a game-high 23 points for the Kangaroos (16-13, 9-9), who closed the regular season by losing their third straight. Bakari Lewis added 16 points for UMKC.

Zach Plackemeier finished with 15 points, all from 3-pointers, and Ben Botts scored 14 for IPFW.
