CAMAS — Martha Martin, the citizen liaison for East County Fire and Rescue, reports being “impressed” with various items in the agency’s 2010 year-end report — especially the way it puts volunteers to work and stays within budget. It says ECFR covers 60 square miles in unincorporated Clark County outside of Camas and Washougal.

In 2010, ECFR responded to 698 calls — 60 percent of them medical emergencies. Volunteers and staff visited more than 700 homes to discuss fire safety. Volunteers are a crucial part of the operation, providing 13,289 hours of help and training — valued at nearly $375,000.

For more information about East County Fire and Rescue, take a look at the report at http://www.eastcofire-rescue.org. Martin can be contacted at cl@eastcofire-rescue.org.
