SEATTLE (AP) — Heavy snow in the Washington Cascades is challenging drivers in the mountain passes. The Transportation Department closed I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass for a time early Monday for avalanche control.
Dustin Guy at the National Weather Service office in Seattle says another 4-to-12 inches are likely Monday and the storm total in the Cascades will be 1-to-3 feet. Snow mixed with rain also is falling in parts of the Western Washington lowlands.
Snow also is falling in the mountains of Eastern Washington with a snow-rain mix at lower elevations.
Forecasters say a vigorous front will bring high winds Tuesday night and Wednesday to Western Washington and more rain and snow to Eastern Washington.
