PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Board of Higher Education may overhaul the office of the state chancellor, the chief executive of the university system.
Chancellor George Pernsteiner has homes in Eugene and Portland. His office has 88 employees in Portland, Eugene, Corvallis and Salem.
The Oregonian reports the board will look at consolidating the office in Portland after the Legislature acts on the board’s proposal to restructure the entire university system.
A growing portion of Persteiner’s work is in Portland where the board meets. He gets $26,000 a year for his home in Portland but the state also spends $41,000 a year maintaining a 1911 mansion at Eugene known as Treetops.
