ISLAMABAD (AP) — A key political party says it is withdrawing from Pakistan’s ruling coalition, depriving the pro-U.S. government of a parliamentary majority.

Faisal Sabswari, a lawmaker from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, said Sunday that his party will join the opposition because of the poor performance of the government.

The MQM’s decision could result in a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and bring down the government if the opposition musters enough support.
