Marshall defeats St. Bonaventure 74-65

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. (AP) — Damier Pitts scored 25 points and Marshall held off a second-half comeback to defeat St. Bonaventure 74-65 on Sunday.

Marshall led 54-39 in the second half and the Bonnies went on a 13-1 run to cut the lead to 55-52 with 6:56 to play on a dunk by Da’Quan Cook. Marshall responded with a 13-3 run to put the game out of reach at 68-55 with 1:19 to play after a free throw by Pitts. Marshall made 11 of 14 free throws in the final 1:41. Pitts made 6 of 10 free throws for the game and shot 7 of 13 from the field.

Shaquille Johnson added 14 points for the Thundering Herd (10-3), who have won two games in a row and seven of their past eight.

Andrew Nicholson scored 29 points, Michael Davenport added 14 and Demitrius Conger had 12 for the Bonnies (7-5), whose past seven games each have been decided by nine points or less, including two in overtime.
