CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN, Wash. (AP) — After a week and a half delay, Crystal Mountain officials have opened the ski resort’s new gondola.
The $5.5 million enclosed lift was to have started carrying passengers in the week before Christmas. But engineers at the resort near Mount Rainier found that its cable had stretched too much, and the cable had to be re-spliced.
The gondola started running early Saturday, and officials say it already has had more than 3,000 passengers. It takes skiers and others up nearly 2,500 feet to the resort’s Summit House.
