Tar Heels rout NC Central in final ACC tuneup

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Krista Gross and Waltiea Rolle scored 16 points each to lead No. 8 North Carolina to a 97-40 win over North Carolina Central on Monday night in the Tar Heels final ACC tuneup.

The Tar Heels (14-0) got off to a slow start, and trailed 18-17 before taking a 39-30 halftime lead. North Carolina scored the first 15 points of the second half and put the game away with a late 36-0 run, holding the Lady Eagles (2-11) without a point for nearly 11 minutes.

North Carolina, which is one of four unbeaten teams left, outrebounded N.C. Central 56-37 and forced 27 turnovers.

Blaire Houston scored 17 points to lead the Lady Eagles.
