ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Former NL Cy Young Award winner Brandon Webb and reliever Arthur Rhodes are now part of the Texas Rangers pitching staff.
The AL champions, who lost former Cy Young winner Cliff Lee in free agency, confirmed the signings of the two pitchers Monday and planned to introduce them during a news conference later in the day. Webb and Rhodes agreed to contracts last month but had to pass physicals to complete the deals.
Webb, the 2006 Cy Young winner with Arizona, hasn’t pitched since the 2009 season opener because of shoulder surgery. Rhodes, the 41-year-old reliever is coming off one of the best of his 20 major league seasons.
Webb is getting a one-year deal from the Rangers while Rhodes’ deal includes a club option for 2012.
