LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — The governor of Pakistan’s dominant province is to be buried under tightened security after a bodyguard shot him dead.

Authorities say the bodyguard was outraged that Punjab Gov. Salman Taseer opposed blasphemy laws carrying the death sentence for insulting the Muslim faith.

Leaders and supporters of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party gathered at Taseer’s official residence in the city of Lahore ahead of his funeral on Wednesday.

Authorities have installed walkthrough metal detectors at the house as an added security measure for the funeral, while police patrol the streets to maintain peace.

Taseer was shot in the back Tuesday as he left a restaurant.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday called Taseer’s death “a great loss.”
