Texas State blows big lead, regroups for 82-70 win

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Texas State saw a 19-point lead evaporate, but the Bobcats closed out Texas-Pan American with a 16-4 run keyed by Ryan White and Matt Staff to defeat the Broncs 82-70 on Tuesday night.

White and Staff scored five points each during the stretch after Texas Pan-American had tied it at 66 on a pair of Matt Mierzycki free throws with 5:59 remaining.

White finished with 13 points and Staff 11 for the Bobcats (5-9), who got a game-high 19 points from Cameron Johnson. He made 8 of 10 shots and had six rebounds. Travis Jones and Uriel Segura scored 10 points each.

Texas State had opened a 45-26 advantage late in the first half, but Texas-Pan American chipped away in the second half and used a 14-4 run, keyed by six points from Mierzycki, to tie it at 66.

The Broncs (3-14), who dropped their eighth straight game, were led by Brandon Provost’s 17 points and Mierzycki’s 16 points and 12 rebounds.
