Newly elected state Rep. Ann Rivers, R-La Center, was sworn into office Wednesday — days before other Olympia freshman legislators — after Jaime Herrera-Beutler vacated the 18th District seat on Tuesday to take office as U.S. Representative for Southwest Washington’s 3rd Congressional District.

Accompanied by family and friends, Rivers was sworn in by Thurston County Superior Court Judge Thomas McPhee in the House chamber of the Capitol building in Olympia.

Rivers will serve on the Business and Financial Services, Judiciary and Transportation committees. She will be joined by colleagues when the 105-day session of the Washington Legislature convenes on Monday.
