LUXEMBOURG (AP) — The top-ranked cycling squad featuring Tour de France runner-up Andy Schleck and Fabian Cancellara will be called Team Leopard-Trek.
The name was announced on Thursday at a team launch event in Luxembourg.
Leopard is team manager Brian Nygaard’s holding company, and Trek is a U.S.-based bike manufacturer and longtime sponsor of Lance Armstrong and his team RadioShack.
Leopard-Trek’s squad was automatically ranked No. 1 by the International Cycling Union, helped by Schleck’s finish in last season’s Tour and time trial world champion Cancellara’s dominance in one-day classics.
Both riders, plus teammates Frank Schleck, Jens Voigt and Stuart O’Grady, left the Danish Saxo Bank squad to join the Luxembourg project.
