REDMOND, Wash. (AP) — The King County medical examiner’s office says a Redmond, Wash., father and his four young sons died from smoke inhalation in a New Year’s Day apartment fire.

The medical examiner announced that finding Wednesday. The victims have been identified as 32-year-old David Wayne Thompson and his sons — 12-year-old Tristan, 6-year-old David Jr., 5-year-old Leviticus and 3-yar-old Wyatt.

The mother of the three younger boys escaped with minor injuries but was so distraught that three firefighters had to hold her to keep her from running back inside. Evergreen Hospital Medical Center spokeswoman Sherry Grindeland says 31-year-old Lilly Reasor was released from the hospital late Monday night.

Fire officials have completed their investigation and sent evidence to the State Patrol Crime Lab for analysis. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
