PARIS (AP) — French businessman Charles Beigbeder has been chosen as the new leader of Annecy’s struggling bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Edgar Grospiron resigned as bid chief last month, saying he wasn’t given enough money to compete with rival candidates Munich and Pyeongchang, South Korea.
The head of the Annecy supervisory board, Christian Monteil, tells The Associated Press that Beigbeder was nominated as a replacement and accepted the offer.
Monteil said he discussed the choice Friday with France’s sports minister, Chantal Jouanno. Jouanno still must finalize the appointment.
The Annecy team will submit its official bid book next week to the International Olympic Committee. An IOC evaluation group will visit the venues in February.
