Europe and Asia tied 2-2 at Royal Trophy

HUA HIN, Thailand (AP) — Europe and Asia are tied 2-2 after the opening day of foursomes in the three-day Royal Trophy match play tournament.

Sweden’s Peter Hanson and Frederik Andersson Hed beat Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee and Jeev Milkha Singh of India, leading by seven strokes with five holes to play.

China’s Liang Wenchong and Noh Seung-yul of South Korea evened the scores when they beat another Swedish pair, Henrik Stenson and Johan Edfors, 3 and 2.

Japan’s Ryo Ishikwa and Shunsuke Sonoda put Asia up with a 3 and 2 win over Italy’s Matteo Manassero and Spain’s Pablo Martin, but Europe’s playing captain Colin Montomerie and Rhys Davies of Wales beat South Korean Kim Kyung-tae and Japan’s Yuta Ikeda 2 and 1 to square it.
