A Vancouver semi-truck driver was involved in a head-on collision in Idaho Thursday after he lost control of his rig on a slushy road.

Yuriy V. Kushniruk, 30, was traveling eastbound in Interstate 90 near Wallace, Idaho, when he lost control of the semi-truck, launched over a barrier and smashed into a Subaru Impreza traveling westbound. Kushniruk was driving too fast for conditions, according to an Idaho State Patrol dispatcher.

Kate E. Cummings, 27, of Missoula was driving the Subaru. She was taken to Kootenai Medical Center where she is in critical condition.

Two children were in the Subaru. Their names, ages and conditions are not known. Kushniruk was not injured.

The semi-truck caught fire but was quickly extinguished.

A report accessed by the dispatcher did not make clear whether any citations were issued.
