Barnies, Maine top Maryland-Baltimore County 82-67

BALTIMORE (AP) — Troy Barnies scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Maine to an 82-67 victory over Maryland-Baltimore County on Saturday.

Barnies scored 15 points in the first half to help the Black Bears (8-7, 2-1 America East Conference) take a 38-33 lead after falling behind 5-0 at the start.

A jumper by Chris De La Rosa, who led the Retrievers (1-14, 0-2) with 24 points and eight assists, cut Maine’s lead to 41-37 early in the second half.

The Black Bears answered with an 11-4 run, which included five points by Raheem Singleton, to go ahead 52-41 with 14:07 remaining. Maine never led by less than nine points after that.

Gerald McLemore scored 16 points, Singleton 15 and Terrance Mitchell 14 points for the Black Bears, who outshot the Retrievers 53.7 percent (29 of 54) to 42.4 percent (25 of 59) and outrebounded them 39-25.

Chase Plummer added 13 points for UMBC.
