STEVENAGE, England (AP) — A Stevenage player was punched to the ground by a fan while celebrating his team’s shock FA Cup victory over Premier League side Newcastle on Saturday.

Defender Scott Laird was floored by a right hook after being approached on the halfway line following his fourth-tier side’s 3-1 win that clinched a spot in the fourth round.

Stevenage manager Graham Westley said Laird told him, “It’s lucky I’ve got a big head to take it.”

The Football Association is to investigate the incident.

It was not clear which team the fan supported.
