ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Aggie Engineer breezed to a 314-length victory over Spurrier on Saturday in the $150,000 San Pasqual Stakes at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Joe Talamo, Aggie Engineer took the lead coming out of the second turn and pulled away for his third straight victory and second straight stakes, covering 1 1-16 miles in 1:40.94.
Aggie Engineer paid $5.40, $3.40 and $2.80, Spurrier returned $3.40 and $2.60, and Quindici Man paid $3.80.
A 6-year-old gelding trained by Paddy Gallagher, Aggie Engineer was coming off a victory in the Dec. 4 Native Diver Handicap at Hollywood Park. The San Pasqual is normally a prep for the Santa Anita Handicap, but Gallagher wouldn’t say whether he was pointing Aggie Engineer to the March 5 race.
Aggie Engineer earned $90,000 for his seventh victory in 17 starts to push his career total to $358,280.
