After Sam Houston State’s Josten Crow hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 58 with 1:52 to play, Clavell added two free throws to give the Bearkats the lead.

UTSA’s Stephen Franklin then made his first foul shot but missed the second. Sam Houston State increased its lead to 62-59 with two free throws from Marcus Williams with 9 seconds remaining before Melvin Johnson III missed a 24-foot heave at the buzzer.
