Gadson’s layup gives Rider 77-76 win over Canisius

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Novar Gadson scored 16 points, including a layup with 2 seconds left to give Rider a 77-76 win over Canisius on Sunday.

The Broncs (12-5, 4-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) trailed 76-75 with 4 seconds left as Mike Ringgold missed a go-ahead layup. Justin Robinson came down with the offensive rebound and missed the follow up. Gadson then collected Rider’s second straight offensive rebound before giving the Broncs their sixth straight win.

Robinson finished with 19 points and eight assists and Ringgold added 17 points.

The Broncs led 75-71 before Julius Coles scored five straight to put Canisius up 76-75 with 1:40 to play.

The Golden Griffins (7-8, 1-4) led by as many as 11, 56-45, with 15:27 left before Rider scored 14 straight for its first lead, 59-56, on Gadson’s 3 with 12:17 left.

Coles finished with 20 points and Greg Logins had 18 for Canisius.
