Harriel leads Portland State to 74-58 victory

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Chris Harriel scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Portland State to a 74-58 victory over Eastern Washington on Saturday night.

Charles Odum had 15 points for the Vikings (9-6, 2-1 Big Sky), who beat the Eagles for the sixth straight time. Melvin Jones chipped in 14 points and Chehales Tapscott had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Tremayne Johnson led Eastern Washington (4-11, 1-2) with 21 points. Glen Dean scored 16 points for the Eagles.

Portland State streaked to an early 12-2 lead and held the Eagles without a field goal for the first 5:05. The Vikings extended their 38-27 halftime lead to 53-38 with an 8-0 run, capped by Terry Coleman’s 3-pointer, with 11:13 to play. Eastern Washington got within 57-51, but the Vikings closed the game with a 17-7 run.

The Vikings shot 44 percent and held Eastern Washington to 30 percent from the field.
