COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Sam Muldrow had the second triple-double in South Carolina history, and freshman Bruce Ellington scored 22 points in his Southeastern Conference debut to lead South Carolina to a 83-75 win over No. 22 Vanderbilt on Saturday.

Muldrow had 16 points, 14 rebounds and a career-best 10 blocked shots.

The Gamecocks never led in regulation. But Ellington’s layup on the first possession of overtime gave them a lead they would never lose and his quick pass to Muldrow for an open 3 put South Carolina up 81-75 with 2:18 to go.

John Jenkins lad Vanderbilt with 27 points after missing the last game with a concussion.

It was a surprising win for a South Carolina team that started three freshmen and had seven players who had never been in an SEC game.
