ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Ashland Police Department is assigning one of its officers to work part-time for the Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force.

The Ashland Daily Tidings reports that Officer Mike Vanderlip will help the city devote more of its resources to investigating child pornography and financial crimes.

The city of Ashland will pay him for 40 hours per week and the FBI will pay for an additional 10 hours.

Ashland Police Chief Terry Holderness says having an Ashland officer at the task force will speed up investigations into electronic and computer crimes that can get caught in a long backlog.
