HOQUIAM, Wash. (AP) — A Highway 101 bridge in Hoquiam used by clam diggers and others headed for Washington coastal beaches has reopened.

KXRO reports the detour signs came down Monday, and the Simpson Avenue bridge started carrying traffic again. The 83-year-old bridge over the Hoquiam River had been closed by the state Transportation Department for nearly six months to repair rotted pilings in a support pier.

The bridge carries about 13,000 vehicles a day.
