REDMOND, Wash. (AP) — Microsoft Corp. CEO Steve Ballmer wants fresh blood at the helm of the software maker’s third-largest division.
In a letter to employees Monday, Ballmer said Bob Muglia, president of the server and tools division, is leaving Microsoft this summer. A replacement was not named.
“I have decided that now is the time to put new leadership in place,” Ballmer said. “This is simply recognition that all businesses go through cycles and need new and different talent to manage through those cycles.”
Muglia has been at Microsoft for 23 years.
The division makes Windows Server, the SQL Server database software, and other programs.
In the most recent fiscal year, server and tools brought in $14.9 billion in revenue. The Windows and Office divisions each had about $18.5 billion in revenue.
