GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Scotland wants to host the opening stage of the Tour de France in 2017.
Event Scotland is preparing a bid and its chief executive Paul Bush has already met with Tour director Christian Prudhomme.
Bush told BBC Scotland on Monday that for Scotland to host a stage of the Tour “in 2017 would be a huge coup.”
Bush says hosting the time-trial stage would cost $7.8 million, but could generate $155 million for the Scottish economy.
The stage could possibly take place between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
