ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders have begun interviewing candidates to fill their vacant head coaching position.
Senior executive John Herrera says the process began Monday. He says the team will not be revealing who it talks to during the search.
The Raiders are searching for their sixth coach since Jon Gruden left for Tampa Bay following the 2001 season. Last week they chose not to exercise a $5 million, two-year option to retain Tom Cable.
Cable had a 17-27 record as Raiders coach. He led them to an 8-8 finish this season that marked Oakland’s first non-losing season since winning the 2002 AFC championship.
