Virginia Commonwealth beats William & Mary 70-52

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — Freshman Rob Brandenberg came off the bench to score a career-high 22 points and lead Virginia Commonwealth to a 70-52 victory over William & Mary on Wednesday night.

Brandenberg had the highest point total by a Rams freshman since Domonic Jones had 22 in 2000. Brandenberg scored 19 second-half points and hit four of the Rams’ 11 3-pointers.

Jamie Skeen had 15 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season for Virginia Commonwealth (12-5, 4-1 Colonial Athletic Association), which has won five of its past six.

The Rams pulled away with a 14-4 run that gave them a 47-34 lead on Brandenberg’s jumper with 11:18 left. Joey Rodriguez scored five straight points for a 58-42 lead with 7:41 to play.

Rodriguez finished with 11 points.

Marcus Kitts had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Quinn McDowell added 10 points for William & Mary (4-12, 0-5).
