Kauto Star bids for record 5th win in King George

KEMPTON, England (AP) — Kauto Star will seek a record fifth successive win in the King George VI Chase on Saturday.

The French-bred steeplechaser is odds-on favorite to surpass the record of four race victories he holds with Desert Orchid, who only managed three of those in a row — one less than Kauto Star.

Owner Clive Smith says “to win five would be a fantastic record and would suit his standing in the world of National Hunt racing.”

Jockey Tony McCoy will be aboard Kauto Star at Kempton for the first time, replacing injured Ruby Walsh.

The race was expected to be run on Boxing Day but was postponed because of a frozen track.
