Portland assault victim dies of injuries

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A man who was assaulted on New Year’s Eve in Portland has died of his injuries.

Police says 40-year-old Robert Williams died Thursday at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland.

He apparently was injured in a fight, and police are asking to hear from anyone who saw a disturbance at Northwest Sixth and Davis Street. Williams’ family is holding a candlelight vigil at the scene at 5 p.m. Saturday.
