The Environmental Education Association of Washington has presented its Organizational Excellence award to the Washington Green Schools program.

Thirty schools in Clark County participate in the statewide program, which encourages student leaders to help promote energy efficiency, recycling, reducing solid waste and improving air quality.

The students are assisted by Clark County’s Department of Environmental Services, which offers tools and resources for the students.

Of 127 schools statewide in the program, only two have earned Level 2 status, the highest level, including Sacajawea Elementary School in Vancouver.

Six local schools — Fort Vancouver High School, Heritage High School, Skyridge Middle School, and Grass Valley, Hathaway and Image elementary schools — have achieved Level 1 status.
