SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The Republican and the Democrat who will lead the Oregon House of Representatives in the upcoming session say they will rely on staying calm and maintaining personal integrity as they manage an unprecedented power-sharing agreement.

For the first time, the House is split 30-30 between the parties after a Republican surge in the last election that also reduced the Democratic majority in the Senate.

The two parties have agreed on Democrat Arnie Roblan of Coos Bay and Republican Bruce Hanna of Roseburg to lead the House, succeeding Democrat Dave Hunt.

Hanna is a 50-year-old president of the soft-drink bottling company his father founded. Roblan is a 62-year-old retired educator, first a math teacher, then a principal.
