Asian Cup: Australia, South Korea make quarters

DOHA, Qatar (AP) — Australia and South Korea have reached the Asian Cup quarterfinals after winning their final group matches.

The Aussies beat Bahrain 1-0 in driving rain Tuesday to finish first in Group C on goal difference. Mile Jedinak scored on a half-volley in the 37th minute. Australia lost to Japan on penalty kicks in the quarterfinals in 2007.

South Korea moved into the knockout round by defeating India 4-1 in Group C. The South Koreans had two goals from Ji Dong-won and one each from Koo Ja-cheol and Son Heung-min. India’s Sunil Chhetri made a penalty kick in the 12th minute.
