BATTLE GROUND, Wash. (AP) — The Clark County sheriff’s office says an off-duty Washington state law enforcement officer was found dead Tuesday night of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities did not immediately release the man’s name, rank or agency.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Chad Rothenberger says a 911 call about a domestic disturbance brought sheriff’s deputies to a home east of Battle Ground on Tuesday afternoon.

The Oregonian reports that dispatchers were told that a shot had been fired at the home, but no one was injured. The caller said the man had hinted at suicide, then walked out with a gun.

Rothenberger says tactical team searchers using night vision goggles and police dogs found the man’s body in a wooded area about 9 p.m.
