Shuler lifts Savannah State over Stetson 50-49

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Jovonni Shuler hit a jumper with 2 seconds left to give Savannah State a 50-49 victory over Stetson on Tuesday night.

The Tigers (3-17), who snapped a four-game skid, overcame a nine-point first-half deficit in a game that had eight ties and 10 lead changes.

The Hatters (6-13) dropped their second straight game by a point following a 63-62 loss to Kennesaw State on a buzzer-beater Sunday.

Cedric Smith came off the bench to lead Savannah State with 13 points, Shuler had 12 and Joshua Montgomery 11.

The Tigers led 26-25 at halftime, then the lead went back and forth until Stetson built a 42-36 cushion with 9:08 left.

After Savannah State pulled ahead on a 10-1 spurt, the Hatters used a 6-0 run for a 49-46 lead. The Tigers’ Preston Blackmon hit two foul shots with 1:26 left.

Ridge Graham had 11 points as Stetson posted its lowest scoring output of the season.
