PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — Six environmental groups have appealed a permit issued to Nippon Paper Industries USA for its biomass energy project.

The city of Port Angeles granted the paper mill a shoreline development permit last September.

The groups appealed the decision last Friday to the state Shorelines Hearings Board.

The Peninsula Daily News reports the groups include No Biomass Burn, Olympic Forest Coalition and the Washington chapter of the Sierra Club.
