WASHINGTON (AP) — Chinese President Hu Jintao (hoo jihn-tow) is telling a group of American business executives that the world is recovering from the global financial crisis but it is a difficult process fraught with destabilizing factors.

He says it is important for both China and the United States to work together to help achieve a full recovery of the world economy. He says cooperation in the Asia-Pacific area is crucial.

The Chinese leader is seeking to persuade Americans that his country is an economic partner and not a threat to U.S. power.

Hu met with the U.S.-China Business Council — companies that have business ties to China — after hearing complaints about China’s human rights and other policies from some of China’s sharpest congressional critics on Capitol Hill.
