SOUTH BEACH, Ore. (AP) — Lincoln County sheriff’s officers are investigating the death of a Newport man whose body was found inside a burning car on the Oregon coast.

Deputies as well as Newport police and firefighters responded Thursday night to reports of a car fire in South Beach. When they extinguished the flames coming from a Ford Escort, they found 58-year-old Lester Robert McDowell dead inside the vehicle.

KPTV says both the cause of the fire and cause of death are under investigation.
