Akron uses late run to beat Bowling Green 63-58

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Darryl Roberts scored 17 points and Akron used a late run to beat Bowling Green 63-58 on Saturday night.

Trailing 48-44 with 6:02 to play, the Zips (11-8, 2-3 Mid-American Conference) scored 11 straight to lead 55-48 on Steve McNeese’s free throw with 30 seconds left.

Akron forced four turnovers during the go-ahead run.

The Zips then went 8 of 8 from the free-throw line the rest of the way, including six by Steve McNees.

McNees finished with 10 points for Akron, which snapped a three-game losing streak.

Akron, the conference leader in turnover margin (plus-3.67 per game), scored 21 points off 20 Bowling Green miscues, while turning it over 16 times.

The Zips led 34-27 at halftime, scoring 13 points off 12 turnovers.

Jordon Crawford scored 16 points to lead the Falcons (8-11, 3-2), who lost for the fourth straight time against Akron.
