Alabama A&M knocks off Alcorn State 64-55

NORMAL, Ala. (AP) — Cornelius Hester scored 18 points to lead Alabama A&M to a 64-55 victory over Alcorn State on Saturday night.

Casey Cantey added 17 points as the Bulldogs (7-8, 4-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) held on for their third win in four games after building a 25-point second-half lead.

Alcorn State (1-16, 1-6) cut the deficit to 56-48 on two free throws by Willis Brownlee, but Alabama A&M scored the next six points for a 62-48 advantage on Cantey’s layup with 2:35 remaining.

The Bulldogs shot just 28 percent from the field (7 of 25) in the second half and were 0 of 6 from the 3-point line after hitting 6 of 12 in the first half.

Alabama A&M scored the final 13 points of the first half to take a 42-20 lead.

Alex Savannah led Alcorn State with 10 points and leading scorer Marquiz Baker, who was averaging 16.6 points, was 0 for 5 from the field and went scoreless.
