Dowdell leads Santa Clara past Portland 72-59

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Ben Dowdell matched his career high with 22 points in leading Santa Clara past Portland 72-59 on Saturday.

Kevin Foster added 19 points for the Broncos (12-9, 3-2 West Coast), who won their second straight and their fifth in seven games. Marc Trasolini had 14 points as Santa Clara moved into a third-place tie in conference play with the loser of a later game between San Francisco and Gonzaga, both of which entered the day with 3-1 WCC marks.

Luke Sikma scored a career-high 29 points for the Pilots (14-6, 2-3), who lost their second straight after winning seven of their previous eight. Tim Douglas added 13 points.
