Filzen’s 6 3s lead Buffalo over Ohio 73-68

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Zach Filzen’s career-high six 3-pointers led to a career-high 23 points to help Buffalo defeat Ohio 73-68 on Saturday.

The Bulls (11-6, 3-2 Mid-American Conference) trailed by 18 at halftime, 43-25, before making 18 of 25 shots in the second half (72 percent) in a matchup of the league’s top two scoring teams.

Ohio, averaging 74.2 points per game, had its scoring leader D.J. Cooper (18.7 points per game) limited to just six in its third straight loss.

Buffalo, averaging 73.9 points per game heading in, used a 16-2 run to tie it at 51 on Filzen’s 3 with 9:38 to play. The Bulls then took their first lead, 55-53, on Byron Mulkey’s layup with 7:45 remaining. After the Bobcats (8-11, 1-4) tied it at 55, Buffalo scored five straight to pull away.

Javon McCrea added 21 points and Mulkey 12 for the Bulls.

DeVaughn Washington and Nick Kellog had 14 points each for Ohio.
