UMKC takes 55-46 win over Western Illinois

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Spencer Johnson picked up a double-double, scoring 16 points and snagging 18 rebounds, to lead UMKC past Western Illinois 55-46 on Saturday night.

Trailing 32-28 midway through the second half, the Kangaroos (12-8, 5-4 Summit) went on a 10-0 run to take the lead for good. The final score was UMKC’s largest lead.

Kaimarr Price grabbed his third double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Matt Lander added 15 points and Brandon Smith scored 11 for the Leathernecks (7-12, 2-7).

The Kangaroos shot just 25 percent from the field in the first half but powered back in the second to shoot 50 percent.

The Leathernecks, meanwhile, shot 36.4 percent before the intermission and stayed consistent with 34.6 percent after.

Jay Couisnard and Trinity Hall scored 11 points each for the Kangaroos and Michael Gholston added 10.
