KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — Matt Stainbrook scored on a layup at the buzzer and finished with 18 points as Western Michigan edged Northern Illinois 82-80 Saturday.

Flenard Whitfield and Demetrius Ward each added 15 point for the Broncos (10-8, 3-2 Mid-American), who won their seventh straight at home.

Xavier Silas led the Huskies (6-11, 2-3) with 23 points, and Tim Toler added 18.

Down 80-76 with 28 seconds to play, Northern Illinois rallied to tie it on a free throw by Lee Fisher and Silas’ 3-pointer with 16 seconds remaining. After Ward missed a layup in the closing seconds, Stainbrook grabbed the rebound and scored the winning basket.

Western Michigan trailed by 14 in the first half and 40-34 at halftime before leading by nine in the second half.
