Pechalat, Bourzat lead ice dance at Europeans

BERN, Switzerland (AP) — French ice dance couple Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat led after the opening short dance program Wednesday at the European Figure Skating Championships.

Pechalat and Bourzat scored 66.91 points dancing a waltz to the main theme from the film “Doctor Zhivago.”

They are favorites after taking silver in the Grand Prix Final.

Russian national champions Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev were second on 65.46.

Sinead Kerr and John Kerr from Britain scored 62.87 for third.

Italy’s Federica Faiella and Massimo Scali, who were fifth at the Vancouver Olympics, finished ninth.
