Rice ends slide against Houston, 79-71 in OT

HOUSTON (AP) — Arsalan Kazemi finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds and Rice ended an eight-game losing streak to Houston, 79-71 in overtime Wednesday night.

Connor Frizzelle led the Owls (10-10, 2-4 Conference USA) with 18 points, and the game went into OT after his 3-pointer with 13 seconds left in regulation. Tamir Jackson added 13 points.

Zamal Nixon scored 15 points, Adam Brown had 14 and Darian Thibodeaux 12 for the Cougars (11-8, 3-3).

The score was tied at 60 with 3:21 to play in overtime before Rice pulled away with six straight points, the start of a 13-3 run. The Owls hit 6-of-7 shots and 10-of-15 free throws in OT while Houston was 5 of 10 from the field and 3 of 4 from the line.

Neither team led by more than six in regulation and there were four lead changes and three ties in the final 8 minutes.
