A Vancouver student, Brittany Anne Gadbury, 26, has been awarded one of Rotary International’s top scholastic honors — an ambassadorial scholarship worth more than $25,000.

The scholarship is a 12-month academic award to study abroad at a university and includes transportation, tuition and fees, room and board, educational supplies and language training. Gadbury, a Vancouver School of Arts and Academics alumna and University of Utah graduate, will attend the University of Glasgow in Scotland beginning next summer.

During her studies, Gadbury will act as an “ambassador of goodwill” and appear at Rotary meetings, schools, civic and community events and other forums to further international understanding.

Gadbury volunteered at substance abuse centers in Salt Lake City while she was in college, and also worked with the Vancouver Food Cooperative, White Bird Dance Co. and performed clinic work with Spanish-speaking clients.

Her international study experience includes Regent’s College in London and International University at Cuernavaca, Mexico, as well as social work in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

The scholarship was sponsored by Rotary District 5100, which covers northern Oregon and southwest Washington.
