Docherty wins Oregon Junior Amateur title

Alistair Docherty, a Union High School senior-to-be, won his divisional final Friday at the Oregon Junior Amateur golf championships in Klamath Falls, Ore.

Docherty, last fall’s Class 4A Greater St. Helens League player of the year, defeated Kevin Murphy of Rogue River, Ore., on the 19th hole to win the Juniors division for golfers ages 16-17 at Reames Golf & Country Club.

Murphy was 2 up after the first two holes and maintained an advantage until the ninth hole when Docherty birdied to square up the match.

Docherty found himself down again as Murphy a birdied the 12th and kept the lead until 18 where Docherty birdied to square the match.

Docherty won it on the 19th hole with a birdie.

In the Intermediate Boys (ages 12-14) division, Brian Humphreys of Washougal finished runner-up. Bryce Wortman of Klamath Falls, Ore., won their final match 3 and 2.

In the Pee Wee Boys (ages 8-11) division, Benjamin Gruher of Camas finished runner-up to Samuel Pyon of Happy Valley, Ore., 3 and 2.
